1st Doc’s Day of Funding Phase 2: Enhancing Poster Presentation Skills- A Workshop for miTarget Doctoral Researchers

On December 2nd, 2024, the (associated) doctoral researchers of miTarget participated in an engaging and insightful workshop on Poster Design and Presentation, hosted by Dr. Imke Lode from ProSciencia. A total of 12 participants attended. The event focused on equipping us with the tools and techniques necessary to create visually appealing, content-rich, and impactful scientific posters. The workshop was met with enthusiasm and provided practical knowledge across three key areas: Design Principles, Content Structuring, and Presentation Techniques.

Key Workshop Takeaways:

  • Design Principles: We learned the importance of simplicity, visual hierarchy, and professional aesthetics to ensure clarity and maximum impact..
  • Content Structuring: Dr. Lode emphasized how to organize information logically and use visuals—such as graphs and charts—to communicate data more effectively.
  • Presentation Techniques: We were given practical tips on delivering concise explanations, fostering interactivity, and engaging audiences confidently.

Poster Discussions:

As part of the workshop, all participants had the opportunity to prepare and present a poster about their research, which was then discussed with Dr. Lode and the whole group. These discussions provided valuable feedback and additional insights into how to improve the clarity and impact of our posters.

Impact and Feedback

The workshop provided us with actionable strategies to improve our poster presentations. We especially appreciated Dr. Lode’s hands-on approach and the valuable insights she shared, which we are excited to apply at upcoming academic conferences. By blending design aesthetics with compelling content and polished presentation skills, we now feel better prepared to showcase our research and make lasting impressions in academic settings.
