Melanie Schirmer has worked as a computational scientist at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard & Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (USA), studying the human microbiome and identifying microbial factors involved in the pathogenesis of IBD. Afterwards, she established her own independent research group at Technical University of Munich (TUM) with an Emmy Noether Award (2020) and an ERC Starting Grant (2022). Today, she holds a Rudolf Mößbauer Tenure Track Professorship for Translational Microbiome Data Integration at TUM.
