Gnotobiotics
The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Plön has run a state-of-the-art gnotobiotic mouse facility since 2012 in collaboration with the CAU Medical Faculty, The facility has 12 isolators (Class Biologically Clean Ltd.) with a capacity of up to 250 mice, and is also coupled to an anaerobic culturing facility. Researchers are able to study germ-free animals and perform fecal transplantation or colonization experiments.
